It's the CLLDF at VanCAF 2019!

The CLLDF will be participating in this year’s VanCAF show, May 18 and 19 at the Roundhouse (181 Roundhouse Mews) in Vancouver. We’ll be set up at tables O1 and O2 in the gymnasium. During the weekend, we’ll be hosting signings by Roman Muradov, Nick Barber, James Stokoe, Marley Zarcone, I Braineater, and Marv Newland. For more information about VanCAF, visit their website, www.vancaf.comRoman Muradov (both days, 10am - 5pm)26b6466f959607238a4aedb9fe1ec894An award-winning author and illustrator living in San Francisco, Roman Muradov works as a professor at California College of the Arts. His work has appeared in the New Yorker, the New York Times, the Paris Review, Vogue, and Lucky Peach, among others. His books include On Doing Nothing, Vanishing Act, (In A Sense) Lost & Found, Jacob Bladders and the State of the Art and the End of A Fence, as well as the French collection Aujourd'hui Demain Hier. His works have also been translated into German, Italian and Korean, and he's done numerous residencies and workshops around the world. He has designed books for Penguin Random House, including the Penguin Classics Centennial Editions of James Joyce's Dubliners and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. He also has a couple of medals from the Society of Illustrators, a cube from the prestigious Art Director’s Club, and an imaginary dog named Barchibald.James Stokoe (both days, 12:00pm – 2:00pm)Canadian comics creator James Stokoe is known for his intricately detailed, visually exciting comics work. Bursting onto the scene with Wonton Soup for Oni Press and Orc Stain for Image Comics, in recent years James has lent his considerable talents to licensed properties, including Godzilla: The Half Century War (IDW) and Aliens: Dead Orbit (Dark Horse). James is appearing courtesy of the Vancouver Comicon.

Marley Zarcone (both days, 12:00pm – 2:00pm)Crafting human characters in unreal situations seems to be Marley Zarcone’s specialty. She makes fantastic real and a part of our world. Her award nominated work on Shade the Changing Girl for DC Comics flipped the script and brought Marley a new level of attention for her as strong artist with singular vision. She is currently lending her skills to Marilyn Manor at IDW. Marley is appearing courtesy of the Vancouver Comiccon.Nick Barber (both days, 10am – 12pm)Nick Barber is a comic book artist and a layout artist for animation. Originally from New Zealand, he now calls Vancouver home. Nick is the co-creator of the Image Comics series Ringside, and is also wrapping up work on an Addams Family animated film.monsterI Braineater (Saturday, 2:30pm – 4:30pm)Jim Cummins AKA “I, Braineater” is ground zero in the Vancouver punk underground art world since its inception in the late 1970s. Involved in performance arts, painting, photography, film and music, Cummins’ work has been featured in film, television and magazines, and has appeared in a multitude of solo and group exhibits worldwide. A ‘witty’, ambiguous commentator on popular culture, a Vancouver art-rock icon, the creator of the popular ‘blockhead’ character that shows up on everything from t-shirts to album covers, Jim Cummins’ works have been described as a ‘a melange of science fiction and sward and sorcery, flavored with punk mythology.Marv Newland (Sunday, 2:30pm – 4:30pm)Marv Newland is an animated motion picture director, animator, and cartoonist/illustrator. In 1969 he made the black and white animated film, BAMBI MEETS GODZILLA. He founded the animation studio International Rocketship Limited in Vancouver, Canada in 1975. Marv contributed illustrations to: Vancouver, Outside Go, Saturday Night, Georgia Straight, Discorder, Time, Travel Etc., Geist, and La Poudriere magazines. His comic art appeared in all editions of Fog City comics. Pines & Palms published yearly books of drawings from Marv's Sketchbooks from 1988 – 2000. Since 2011 Marv and International Rocketship are located on Mayne Island in the Salish Sea between Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia. Marv continues to illustrate and make animated short movies, most recently SCRATCHY (2016).
